TORONTO, August 22, 2024 – JOLT, Canada’s latest urban Digital Out-of-Home network integrated with free, fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, is pleased to announce that advertising real estate development executive Justin Dempsey has been appointed as Vice President, Real Estate, Eastern Canada, adding valuable industry expertise to its growing Canadian team.
Leveraging his deep experience in negotiating real estate agreements with Canadian municipalities and commercial landowners for Outedge Media’s Out-of-Home advertising infrastructure, Dempsey will be responsible for identifying and fast-tracking site partnerships in Eastern Canada for JOLT’s network of EV charging stations which feature digital advertising panels. Dempsey is also taking a lead role in managing the rollout of JOLT’s national network, beginning in Ontario this fall and scaling rapidly through 2025 and 2026 towards 10,000 urban digital Out-Of-Home display panels on 5,000 EV charging stations.
“I am excited to be joining JOLT during this incredible growth phase, and to help bring an innovative solution to the Canadian Out-of-Home (OOH) advertising industry,” said Dempsey at this week’s annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference in Ottawa, where municipal leaders expressed eager interest in bringing public EV infrastructure to their communities. “With many provinces and municipalities rolling out ambitious green energy programs, JOLT is uniquely positioned to be a key partner in building vital new changing infrastructure to benefit Canadian communities.”
Dempsey reports that construction began this week on JOLT’s inaugural charging stations in Ontario. Located in Richmond Hill, the chargers will provide free, fast, and clean charging of EVs to all JOLT users, and will feature double-sided digital display panels. With nearly 15 years of experience in leading real estate development projects for the Out-of-Home advertising industry in Canada, Dempsey joins JOLT from Outedge Media where he was the lead real estate developer in building Canada’s largest OOH digital billboard network. He was also responsible for developing the country’s largest street furniture advertising network, from which spans Halifax to Vancouver and involves more than a dozen major municipalities. Dempsey also has expertise in managing real estate portfolios of thousands of OOH static billboard assets in major cities across Canada, providing advertisers with coverage in every key demographic.
Doug McNamee, Chief Executive Officer, JOLT, said “Canada represents a terrific opportunity for JOLT and we are thrilled with the reception our innovative offer has experienced so far. With Justin and our growing Canadian team under Brendan’s leadership, we are accelerating our drive to bring free, fast, and clean charging to Canada and to help Canadian drivers transition to EVs easier and faster.”
Based in Toronto, Dempsey will work closely with Brendan Dillon, who was recently appointed Canada Country Manager for JOLT. Dillon takes on the new leadership role in addition to his responsibilities as Senior VP, Advertising Sales (Canada), supporting brand leaders and media agencies to leverage JOLT’s sustainable digital advertising network to increase reach and achieve unparalleled audience engagement. With double-sided panels featuring industry-leading digital display capabilities including in-app advertising, JOLT aims to become Canada’s largest urban digital panel network with up to 10,000 screens across its charging stations across Canada.
JOLT’s unique advertising-funded model enables EV drivers to access up to 7 kWh of free charging every day (which equates to 40 to 50 kilometres of range and 15 to 20 minutes of charge time, depending on the vehicle) while supporting Canada’s expanding EV market. After the free 7 kWh of free charging, customers can choose to continue charging at JOLT’s low-cost billable tariff of $0.35 per kWh — the cheapest public on-street charging tariff in the GTA. The company, which operates ad-enabled EV charging networks in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, has partnered with TELUS to bring its state-of-the-art technology to Canada where it will run on the award-winning TELUS network and be powered by 100 percent renewable energy.
