The cost of driving electric has long been clouded by misunderstanding and misinformation. To cut through the confusion and provide a full, unbiased picture of EV ownership, we partnered with Electric Vehicles UK (EVUK) to sponsor the Cost of Driving Electric (CODE) Report—a landmark study offering the clearest view of EV affordability in Britain, giving drivers the clarity they need to make informed decisions.
Our mission—to eliminate financial barriers and accelerate Britain’s transition to clean transport—aligns with EVUK’s commitment to empowering drivers with reliable data. The CODE Report reveals that over 80% of UK drivers could save money by going electric, with the average EV driver saving £5,850 over their vehicle’s lifetime when factoring in purchase price, maintenance, taxation, and depreciation.
However, the report highlights a critical challenge: drivers without home charging face significantly higher costs. While those with home chargers enjoy lower overnight tariffs, drivers relying on public infrastructure often pay a premium.
At JOLT, we believe cost should never be a barrier to driving an EV. Through our unique advertising-funded approach, we provide 7kWh of free charging daily—enough for around 30 miles of driving—before switching to the UK’s lowest public DC rate of just 35p/kWh.
By expanding access to fast, free charging in urban areas, we are removing cost barriers and ensuring that all drivers—regardless of where they live—can share in the financial and environmental benefits of going electric.
Recognised by TIME and Statista as one of the world’s top 250 greentech companies, our pioneering EV charging and advertising model is helping cities transition to cleaner, more connected transport networks, making the switch to electric vehicles easier and more affordable for everyone.
The CODE Report plays a crucial role in debunking affordability myths and pinpointing areas for improvement. As urban EV adoption rises, public charging infrastructure must keep pace. We are leading the charge, ensuring that free, fast, and affordable charging becomes the norm, not the exception.
